EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Some big changes are on the way for Broadmoor Elementary School in Baton Rouge.
Tuesday night, school leaders outlined those changes and took questions from parents. The plan is to build a brand new school that will eventually run through 8th grade. One middle school grade will be added each year. That means the existing Broadmoor Middle campus will close. This is one of several mergers that the superintendent hopes will free up some much needed money.
"Many of the schools we've built in the last five years are only 50 percent occupied. That is not efficient use of our space. That is what we're doing, really, is merging some of those schools together to make us more efficient and then use some of the monies that was to be used in other schools to build new schools like Broadmoor Elementary," said Superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish Schools Warren Drake.
There's another community meeting scheduled for Wednesday night at Park Elementary so parents can ask more questions. It begins at 6 p.m.
