NEW ORLEANS (WAFB) - Defensive back Malcolm Butler has signed his restricted free agent tender with the New England Patriots.
Butler has been the center of trade talks between the Saints and Patriots, but the talented back left New Orleans in March without signing an offer sheet.
The tender carries with it a first-round level pick and a salary of $3.91 million for the 2017 season.
Butler has played three seasons in New England. In 43 games, the DB has totaled 118 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and six interceptions.
He is best known for his interception against Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson in Super Bowl XLIX, clinching the victory for the Pats.
Although the Saints and Patriots may very well agree on a trade before the NFL Draft, it is doubtful the Saints will give up the 11th pick of the draft.
