BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man has been arrested after recklessly driving a truck, crashing into a motorcyclist.
Police say that 26-year-old Henre Smith was turning onto S. Flannery Rd. from Florida Blvd. at approximately 10:45 p.m. Thursday when he failed to yield and hit the motorcyclist.
The victim had serious injuries, including a possible broken arm.
Police say they suspected Smith to be impaired, and there was a strong smell of suspected burnt marijuana coming from inside his truck on his person. Smith had poor balance, red, blood shot eyes, and slurred, stuttering speech.
Smith claimed that he had been smoking marijuana, and police found evidence of a burnt marijuana cigarette on the driver's seat.
Smith said the marijuana cigarette was his, according to East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reports.
Samples have been sent off for toxicology testing.
Smith was booked into Parish Prison on first-offense DWI, reckless operation of a vehicle, possession of marijuana, and vehicular negligent injuring.
