ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - An animal organization that's been working overtime since the August 2016 flooding got a big boost Thursday.
Companion Animal Rescue of Ascension, or CARA's House, got a check for $7,000 from American Humane. The staff at CARA's house quickly and safely evacuated hundreds of their animals during the flood, but their building was severely damaged.
"CARA's House, they've pulled the weight and it took its toll on them. It took its toll on them physically, emotionally, and financially, so through this grant process, American Humane has had a chance to help restore that just a little bit," said Dr. Lisa Stabus with American Humane.
"Everybody in our parish and our state locally who have helped out and continue to help and plan on helping, it's so appreciated," said Jolie Culpepper with CARA's House.
The staff at CARA's House says in addition to flood repairs, they plan to use a big portion of the grant money to expand the kennel space so they can help rescue more dogs.
