BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A celebration two centuries in the making was held Wednesday night at the old governor's mansion.
Louisiana Life Magazine hosted this birthday bash for the City of Baton Rouge, which of course turned 200-years-old in 2017. Governor John Bel Edwards and Mayor-president Sharon Weston Broome were both there to honor the capital city. The governor talked about the last year and how it brought out the absolute best in the people of Baton Rouge.
"The people in Louisiana are the best anywhere, and the people of Baton Rouge have demonstrated that they are truly exceptional as well. If you just think about what this city has been through and how we saw people come together in times of need, to be true Samaritans, just like in Luke chapter ten," said Edwards.
As part of Wednesday night's birthday bash, a group of Louisianans of the Year was honored, including LSU head football coach, Ed Orgeron.
