(WAFB) - Free disaster crisis counseling is still available for both adults and children through Louisiana Spirit, a program administered by the state and funded by a grant from FEMA.

For children to recover from disasters, it is beneficial for them to stay in a routine and keep a positive focus on activities. Summer camps, sports, and outdoor activities and good ways to keep children active and engaged while they are recovering from a disaster such as the August flooding.
FEMA has been working with federal partners, such as the U.S. Department of Education, non-governmental organizations, and pediatric experts to ensure the needs of recovering children are being met.
Counselors with Louisiana Spirit go door-to-door in disaster-affected areas to provide services to children and adults. The program works along with the Metropolitan Human Services District in New Orleans, the American Red Cross, and many other organizations.
