ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Ascension Parish officials said the results of a compensation survey show the parish government is in a position to succeed and compete with other districts in the region.

Parish President Kenny Matassa commissioned the survey. It was prepared by SSA Consultants in Baton Rouge. The results were presented to the Ascension Parish Council Finance Committee on Tuesday.

Officials said it shows:

Excellent benefits offered
Fully funded retirement plan
Focus on wellness care and portability by health insurance program

The survey reportedly also shows low turnover and salaries comparable to other parishes and cities.

It also made the following recommendations:

Readjustment of market-based salary ranges for all positions
Work to bring all employees into salary range for their position
Consolidation of similar positions and the creation of lines of progression

"Overall, the survey found our compensation on target and SSA has made recommendations for additional improvement," Matassa said in a written release. "I will move forward with the Council to implement these recommendations and make Ascension more successful and better positioned to attract a talented workforce."
