FRANKLINTON, LA (WAFB) -

A two-car crash in Franklinton has claimed the life of a 13-year-old child, Louisiana State Police reports.

Shortly before 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, troopers from LSP Troop L responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on Hwy. 25 at the intersection of Hwy. 38 in Franklinton. Madison Nicholson, 13, of McComb, Mississippi, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Officer.

The crash occurred as Melinda Collette, 47, of Kentwood, was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 38. As Collette approached the intersection, for reasons still under investigation, she failed to stop, crashing into the passenger side of a GMC Sierra traveling southbound on Hwy. 25. Nicholson was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Sierra.

Collette and the driver of the Sierra, 21-year-old Reagan Magee of McComb, Mississippi, were both restrained and transported to North Oaks Health systems where they were treated for moderate injuries.

A juvenile passenger in the front seat of Collette’s vehicle was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The juvenile was ejected from the rear life-gate of Collette’s vehicle. She suffered moderate injuries and was transported to North Oaks Health Systems as well.

Intoxication is not suspected on the part of either driver.

Collette was cited for failure to stop at the intersection.

The investigation and evidence pertaining to this crash remains under investigation.
