BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - On Thursday, United Healthcare wrote a love letter to the community when it wrote a check to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation (BRAF).
The company gave $250,000 to boost five organizations who were hurt by the flooding last summer, but continue to rescue those crippled by disaster. Louisiana First Lady Donna Edwards attended the ceremony.
"They're very involved in rebuilding. The law students at Southern University are helping people with secession and some of the legal issues associated with housing, the mobile breast cancer van is screening displaced people. Every one of these organizations is doing great work in the community," said Allison Young with United Healthcare.
Organizations also receiving the grant include Mid-City Redevelopment Alliance, the Louisiana First Foundation, and SBP, formerly the St. Bernard Project. To celebrate, they packed a trailer with supplies for those still struggling with flood problems.
