NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - The National Weather Service confirmed 17 tornadoes impacted Louisiana when severe weather passed through the state Sunday and Monday.
At least two people in Louisiana died and at least three others were injured as a result of the storms. However, the same system was responsible for deaths in other southern states.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office reported Francine Gotch, 38, and her daughter, Neville Alexander, 3, died after their trailer in Breaux Bridge flipped when it was hit by an EF-1 tornado.
Rapides Parish, in the central part of the state, was hit by four tornadoes. There was extensive damage done to a gas station and a few neighborhoods had downed trees.
Forecasters said two tornadoes hit the North Shore in St. Tammany Parish. Both were EF-1. The tornadoes knocked down trees and caused some structure damage. One of them knocked a tree onto a home. No injuries were reported.
Tornadoes also hit the following parishes:
The storms also dumped heavy rains, leaving some families that flooded in August with water in their homes again.
