Correctional officer accused of smuggling contraband into jail

FRANKLIN, LA (WAFB) - A correctional officer accused of getting contraband into the jail has been arrested, according to officials.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said Nathan Jones, 26, of Franklin, was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives reported they collected evidence that Jones smuggled banned items into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. They did not released details on what was brought into the facility.

Jones is charged with entering contraband into a penal institution and malfeasance in office.

Bond has not been set.
