LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) - A man is now behind bars after walking into a south Louisiana sheriff's office and confessing to an out-of-state murder from 24 years ago, according to investigators.
North Carolina authorities said Allen Deaver, 74, of Walker, LA, confessed to deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office to killing his son-in-law in 1993.
The original investigation showed that Sidney Gregory was beaten and then left in a mobile home that was set on fire.
Court documents show that Deaver confessed on Feb. 7, 2017, which was the 24th anniversary of the crime.
Officials said a grand jury in Wayne County, NC indicted Deaver on Wednesday (April 5, 2017) on a charge of first-degree murder.
Right now, arrangements are being made for his extradition back to North Carolina.
