Man faces attempted murder charge in Elmer Ave. shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Willie Wilson III, 21, allegedly shot the 23-year-old male victim in the neck after a fight.

Investigators said the shooting happened on Elmer Ave. near Avenue F around 12:30 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the location and found the victim in the yard of the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Officials say Wilson fled the scene after the shooting, but turned himself in to police shortly afterwards. 

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

Wilson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

Bond has not been set. The investigation is ongoing.
