ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) - A Zachary woman has been arrested for child desertion, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office reports.
Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call on Friday, March 31 about a two-year-old child being left at home alone.
After investigation, officials say that 24-year-old Wendy Jackson of Zachary confirmed that she left her child at her house to go to Baton Rouge with a friend to do cocaine at around 10 p.m the night of Thursday, March 30.
The child was found over 14 hours later by Jackson's father, just after noon the following day, and he then called the cops.
Jackson says that she left her child with her cousin, who stated she was asleep and never informed of this, unaware the child was still at home because they were in separate rooms.
Deputies arrested Jackson and booked her into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for child desertion and for an outstanding bench warrant.
