BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Duluth man is behind bars in Baton Rouge after authorities say he and another man ambushed a male victim and shot at him after being lured to the home to the mother of his child.

On February 6, according to probable cause reports, Apriel Bennett, 26, of Baton Rouge, intentionally started an argument with a male victim, who is the father of her child, in order to get him to come back to her home. Apriel allegedly had her brother, Marcus Bennett, 22, of Duluth, Ga., and his friend, Chosen Roach, 23, of Baton Rouge, waiting to do harm to him.

According to police, shortly after dropping their child back to Apriel, the male victim got a call from her, yelling and cursing at him saying something was wrong with their child’s eye.

The victim then returned to Apriel’s home and, according to his statement to police, Marcus and Roach were there waiting for him in a dark SUV.

According to reports, an argument between Apriel and the victim began then Marcus and Roach surrounded him with guns in-hand, pulled their guns on him, and punched him in the face. According to police, the victim told Marcus Bennett he would fight him if he put his gun down.

After putting his gun down, Marcus began punching the male victim, telling him not to fight back, while Roach still had his gun drawn on the victim. According to his statement to police, the victim pleaded with the two to not shoot him because his children were in his vehicle.

According to probable cause reports, Marcus told Roach to shoot the victim while Marcus punched him in the head. Roach allegedly shot at the victim as he was fleeing in his vehicle, which contained two children aged 3 and 12.

According to the victim’s statement to police, Apriel witnessed the fight and did not say or do anything to stop them. In addition, she was also standing with the two men as the victim drove off.

The victim was able to positively identify Marcus and Roach through a six-person lineup, as well as, through a Facebook photo with the two provided to police.

On March 23, Apriel Bennett was arrested and booked on charges of principal to attempted 1st degree murder (4 counts), principal aggravated assault with a fireman, principal to simple battery and several other traffic offenses.

Roach was also arrested and booked on charges of attempted 1st degree murder (4 counts), illegal use of a weapon, and possession of firearm by person convicted of certain felonies.

A criminal history check of Roach shows he was convicted of illegal possession of a stolen firearm and illegal carrying of a weapon in 2010.

On March 31, Marcus Bennett was arrested and booked on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, simple battery, and principal to attempted 1st degree murder (4 counts).

All are being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Marcus Bennett is being held on a $125,000 bond.
