BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said a woman believed to be part of a gang that breaks into vehicles to steal driver's licenses, checks and debit cards was arrested in another parish, but has been returned to East Baton Rouge to face charges after the theft of a woman's purse while she visited her mother's grave.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported Tokoya Britt, 26, of Daytona Beach, FL, and other suspected members of the Felony Lane Gang were arrested in Jefferson Parish days after the theft.
Deputies said the victim's purse was stolen while she was at a funeral home on Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on February 5.
Investigators reported Britt and another woman were found with stolen IDs, checks and debit cards when they were arrested. They added some of the items belonged to the woman whose purse was stolen in Baton Rouge.
Britt was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday on charges of simple burglary and principal to theft.
Her bond is set at $25,000.
