IBERIA PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Several former Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were sentenced Tuesday in connection to beatings at the jail.
A judge ordered them to serve anywhere from six months behind bars to more than four years for their involvement with the 2011 beatings. Ten deputies pleaded guilty in exchange for their cooperation in the case against Sheriff Louis Ackal.
The sheriff was accused of ordering inmates to be beaten in retaliation for complaints about jail conditions. Ackal was acquitted of federal charges that came from this in 2016.
