PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) - Two pounds of high-grade marijuana with a street value of $16,000 was reportedly found inside of Masimo Vasquez's home in Plaquemine.
The LEAD task force, which is made up of Plaquemine Police Department officers and Iberville Sheriff's Office deputies, focuses on making drug arrests and executed a search warrant for the home.
"The individual packages, they're selling those for a certain amount and if you were to get them in the bulk, they've already taken it and broken it down and have it ready to be sold in the street," said Plaquemine Police Chief Kenny Payne.
Officials believe Vasquez was a distributor selling to street level dealers. Along with the marijuana, they reported finding four guns, three of them high-powered.
"This is overkill to have weapons, to have in the city limits of Plaquemine. These types of assault rifles and these types of equipment is not what you normally find when we search these dope houses," said Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.
"The weapons you see there could very well be stolen and had been traded for dope at one time," said Chief Payne.
Because of all the guns discovered, Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said they used their SWAT team for assistance. In the end, with every drug arrest made, they said they are putting a dent in the amount of drugs on the streets of Iberville Parish.
Vasquez is charged with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
