BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A woman accused of bilking flood victims was arrested Monday, March 27.
According to Crime Stoppers, Ora Mae Williams was arrested due to a tip to Crime Stoppers.
Williams is accused of taking money for repairs to homes that were damaged during the August flood, but then failed to complete the work and the work that was completed was not done so properly.
Additionally, the victim says Williams claimed to be a licensed contractor, but after the first round of work was not completed correctly, the victim learned from the State Contractor's Board that she is not licensed and she has previous violations on her record.
The inspection of the home was completed and it was found to have violations.
The investigating deputy with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office found that Williams had not filed any permits related to the work that was done on the home.
She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and was released on a $20,000 bond the same day.
