Man arrested after allegedly forcefully taking items from elderly man in grocery store

AMELIA, LA (WAFB) -

A Pierre Part man has been arrested after Assumption Parish officials say he was forcefully taking items from an elderly man in a grocery store.

The incident occurred on Saturday, March 25 at a supermarket in Amelia. Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a complaint of a disturbance at the store. When they arrived, they interviewed witnesses and located other evidence that indicated a man, identified as Ryan Vaughn, 33, was forcefully taking items from an elderly man.

Vaughn had left the store, but was later located at a home in Bayou L'Ourse. Vaughn is charged with simple battery of the infirmed and simply robbery.

Vaughn was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing. Vaughn was also booked on unrelated charges of simple battery and aggravated assault.
