Maj. Kevin Reeves takes over as interim head of Louisiana State Police

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There is a new top cop for Louisiana State Police, at least for a little while.

"Col. Edmonson has done an incredible job with State Police," said Maj. Kevin Reeves, interim superintendent of Louisiana State Police. "He's made incredible strides for the agency and with our relationships with our partners. He's going to be, he has huge shoes to fill but we are going to give it our best and fortunately, he laid a good path for us to follow."

Reeves officially took command of State Police as interim superintendent on Saturday.

He was tapped by Gov. John Bel Edwards to take over after Col. Mike Edmonson retired.

Reeves was serving as the regional director for central Louisiana.

The governor is expected to make his permanent pick by June.
