ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - You may have noticed more people than usual wearing purple Friday, especially in Ascension Parish.
That's because Parish President Kenny Matassa declared it "Paint the Parish Purple Day" to raise awareness for cancer research.
Parish workers showed up to work in their favorite shades of purple to support the American Cancer Society.
The organization helps raise funds and gives support to those fighting the deadly disease.
Unfortunately, cancer has become so widespread, everyone knows someone trying to fight it.
"I'm wearing purple for my sister, Mary, who is a cancer survivor, for my neighbor, Lisa, who is cancer survivor, and for all those other cancer survivors just to show them we support them and do whatever we can to help," said Martin McConnell with Ascension Parish Government.
The Ascension Parish Relay for Life is on Saturday, April 29 this year.
