WALKER, LA (WAFB) -

In the hours following the procession for Lt. Shawn Anderson, a mother from Walker composed a beautiful poem to recount the experience.

Her words need no other introduction or explanation.

"Lt. Shawn Anderson"

My daughter watched a procession,
for an officer today.
She placed her hand over her heart,
and bowed her head to pray.

She watched all the police vehicles,
as they slowly passed her by,
up until now, in her innocent mind,
she thought that heroes didn't die.

Today my 5 year old little girl,
mourned a man she's never met,
And the world taught her a lesson,
that she's sure to never forget.

A lesson on good and evil,
a reality she hadn't yet seen,
she learned that endings aren't always happy,
and that the world can be so mean.

America, if you're listening,
please stop and pray today.
Pray for our heroes, pray for our children,
and for the hate to wash away.

To you, Lt. Anderson,
may you rest now in sweet peace,
within Heaven's arms of glory,
where the pain and gun fire cease.

And for our officers out there protecting,
despite the harm that waits out there,
know that we love you and stand with you,
and that you are always in our prayers.

And lastly, dear God, hear my plea,
bless the weary and the lost,
bless the families of our bravest,
who sacrifice despite the cost.

Make us humble, make us kind,
bring us love and respect again,
keep us strong and guide each journey,
in your sweet name, Amen.
