WALKER, LA (WAFB) - Students and faculty of Levi Milton Elementary School took a moment to honor fallen East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office deputy, Lt. Shawn Anderson.
"It's important to recognize and know what the officers do, what they lay on the line every day, and that they often make sacrifices for the greater good of the community," said Dawn Rush with the Livingston Parish School District.
Law enforcement holds a special place in the heart of the elementary school family. Becky Anderson, the wife of the slain deputy, is an instructional coach at the school.
"No brainer, no thought required, it is part of what we do. We're a family in this school district," said Rush.
The entire school day stopped in its tracks as hundreds of students lined Walker Rd. to pay their final respects as Lt. Anderson's body passed by Levi Milton Elementary.
"Support is a chain link and every person is a part of that chain link and when you come together, you become stronger and you make it through it," said Rush.
