BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Law enforcement officers who worked with Lt. Shawn Anderson each day reported to duty along the funeral procession route for a silent ceremony they surely will never forget.
At the heart of the procession was a stop at the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office Kleinpeter Substation on Airline Hwy. It's where Anderson reported to work. Deputies lined the shoulder of the roadway to salute their fallen brother. The crowd gathered there grew silent as SWAT members transferred Anderson's body from the Bear Cat to a funeral hearse.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux and his deputies comforted Anderson's wife and children as they looked on.
"It is absolutely heartbreaking, but it is something I am so honored to be here to be a part of, because he definitely deserves any honor and thanks and that family is so strong and they need all of our prayers and anything we can help them with right now," said Jessica Bollinger a friend of Lt. Anderson.
The procession continued down Airline Hwy. to I-12, where family and friends were greeted by more supporters. The procession ended in Pine Grove, where Anderson was laid to rest.
