BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A 20-year-old Baton Rouge man has been booked on numerous charges after leading an East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office deputy on a high speed chase.

On Tuesday, March 21, at approximately 9:10 p.m., a patrolling deputy was able to radar a red 2006 Honda Accord travelling at 60 mph on Eddie Robinson Sr. Dr., where the posted speed limit is 25 mph.

EBRSO deputies reported the driver of the car, later identified as Davante Woods, refused to stop when the deputy attempted to pull him over. Woods then ran multiple stop signs in flight from the deputy and accelerated to speeds over 100 mph. Woods escaped the pursuit near the I-10/I-110 split.

Deputies ran the license plate of the vehicle and discovered the vehicle belonged to Woods’ girlfriend, who led them to Woods' residence near the intersection of Stumberg Ln. and Coursey Blvd.

After allegedly having the door shut on them while trying to make contact with Woods, deputies forced their way into the residence and detained the lead-foot driver. While conducting a routine security sweep of the home, deputies observed suspected marijuana in plain view in both of the bedrooms.

Deputies then conducted a search of the home after presenting Woods with a consent to search waiver and found a partially smoked marijuana cigar, marijuana in a large plastic bag, a Ruger P905 pistol in a backpack with 9mm ammo, $1,067 in cash on the night stand, a plastic bag of cocaine, and a marijuana grinder.

Woods’ girlfriend claimed some of the marijuana found in the bedroom belonged to her, and she was issued a misdemeanor summons for possession of marijuana. She was released from the scene before deputies transported Woods and his roommate to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Woods' roommate was booked for possession of schedule II drugs (cocaine), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Woods was booked for possession of a firearm with controlled dangerous substances, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer, and speeding.
