The Saints have signed linebacker Manti Te’o to a two-year contract on the same day Tim Lelito left New Orleans for Tennessee.
Te'o, the former Notre Dame star, was drafted by the Chargers in the second round of the 2013 draft.
He played all four years in San Diego, finishing with 289 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, 11 passes defensed, a forced fumble, 14 tackles for loss and two special teams tackles in 38 games played with 34 starts.
The Saints have put an emphasis this offseason on rebuilding a very bad defense. Te'o joins former Cardinals linebacker Alex Okafor and former Carolina inside linebacker AJ Klein. The team also re-signed defensive lineman Nick Fairley to a four-year contract extension.
Lelito agreed to terms with the Titans after visiting the Detroit Lions.
The Grand Valley State graduate was signed by New Orleans as a free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft. He played in 63 games for the Saints, with 24 starts.
He played in all 16 games last season and started seven games.
