BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU officially introduces Will Wade as the university’s next men's basketball coach during a media event today.

Wade has been a head coach for four years, two at Chattanooga and the past two at Virginia Commonwealth. His overall record as a head coach is 91-45. Wade went 51-20 at VCU, winning the 2015-2016 A-10 Conference and making the NCAA Tournament in 2016 and 2017.

LSU basketball's Twitter account confirmed the deal Monday night.

The VCU Rams went 1-2 in the NCAA Tournament with Wade at the helm. VCU fell to St. Mary's, 85-77, this season and went 1-1 last year beating Oregon State before falling to Oklahoma in the second round.

Wade took over at VCU after Shaka Smart left to become the head coach at the University of Texas.

He has been an assistant coach at Clemson (2005-2007), Harvard (2007-2009) and VCU (2009-2013) before landing the head coaching position at Chattanooga in 2013.

Wade takes over for former LSU head coach Johnny Jones.

Jones was fired on March 10, after a 10-21 record this year, including losses in 17 of the Tigers last 18 games and finishing with a 2-16 conference record.

The 34-year-old is a native of Nashville, Tennessee and graduated from Clemson University. Wade spoke at a press conference Wednesday afternoon at LSU. The video can be viewed below.
