ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa has announced the parish's road overlay program is now underway.
The Department of Public Works' Pavement Management Division has begun patching and repairing street throughout Ascension Parish. The goal of the program is to work on smaller roads in rural areas and subdivision roads.
Early in his administration, Matassa authorized the purchase of an asphalt paving machine, an asphalt roller, and a tack (asphalt adhesive) applicator.
"Roads are a priority for me, and with our own equipment and our own crews, we can focus on road repairs systematically," said Matassa.
The cost of the equipment totaled less than $200,000, officials say, and is saving the parish both time and money. Crews began work in Pelican Point in February and are currently doing work in St. Amant and Galvez.
Additional work will be done on roads throughout the parish in the coming months.
