KANSAS CITY, MO (WAFB) -

LSU's Golden Band from Tigerland has been selected by the College Band Directors National Association's (CBDNA) Athletic Band Committee to present at the CBDNA National Conference March 15 - 18 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Tiger Band, under the direction of Dennis Llinás and Kelvin Jones, is one of eight bands from around the country to be recognized by the committee for exceptional or unique performances, such as performances in the band's marching show, entitled NOLASecond Line, Do Whatcha Wanna, and When the Saints Go Marching In.

School of Music director of bands, Damon S. Talley, will give the presentation, addressing the historical background, development, and direction of NOLA, the band's marching show. "We are so excited for our students to be recognized on a national stage for all the hard work they have done this season. It is through their tremendous effort, as well as the fantastic leadership of Dr. Llinás and Dr. Jones, that this is possible," said Talley.

NOLA premiered at the LSU vs. Mississippi State football game on September 17, 2016.

"I think this recognition is, in part, due to the fortitude of the students in the Tiger Band. It goes to show the type character our members have - no matter the circumstance we strive toward excellence on and off the field," said Daniel Wendt, a drum major.

WAFB ARCHIVES: Former Mississippi sharecropping family, all college graduates, reunite for Thanksgiving meal

Thanksgiving is about sharing, so we want to share something with you. In 1978, CBS news' "On The Road" segment was hosted by Charles Kuralt. He found a family of 11 in Prairie, Mississippi, all coming home for Thanksgiving. All nine children had memories of a sharecropper's cabin and nothing to wear and nothing to eat. All nine are college graduates.
