BATON ROUGE, LA - No. 6 LSU (12-4) defeated Wichita State, 9-2, to sweep the Shockers in the final non-conference series ahead of Southeastern Conference play Sunday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

Freshman Eric Walker started for the fourth-straight week and moved to 2-0 on the season with six innings of shutout baseball. Walker allowed just three hits and struck out three WSU batters on Sunday.

The Tigers opened the game with a three-run first inning of off four hits. After Kramer Robertson and Cole Freeman were in scoring position after a pair of singles, Antoine Duplantis singled to right field to plate the pair.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Chris Reid notched his second RBI of the season on a single off the pitcher’s glove to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The home team added to the lead in the third inning thanks to a three hits and a Wichita State error. With freshman Josh Smith on first after a one-out single, fellow newcomer Jake Slaughter brought him on a perfectly executed hit-and-run with a double down the left-field line.
