BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Jewel J. Newman Community Center (JJNCC) is seeking individuals interested in earning a GED (General Education Development) certificate, or high school equivalency.
Evening classes are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is open through March 31.
The GED exam, which offer an equivalent to a high school diploma, tests students' problem solving and critical thinking abilities, while also emphasizing skills needed for college and the workplace. According to the Center on Education and the Workforce in Washington, D.C., by 2018, almost 63 percent of all jobs in the country will require some sort of post-secondary education and/or training.
The GED exam aims to help adults move successfully toward a job that pays a livable wage. Those interested should register for the GED program at the JJNCC, located at 2013 Central Rd., between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
