Driver dies two days after crash in Gonzales

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four-vehicle wreck involving serious injuries on US 61 near LA 30 in Ascension Parish.

On March 9, troopers were told that Kevin Campbell, 33, of Laplace, died due to injuries sustained in that crash.

The initial investigation by LSP revealed the wreck occurred as Campbell was traveling northbound on US 61 in a 2015 Dodge Charger when for unknown reasons, he struck the rear of another northbound traveling vehicle. This impact triggered a chain reaction involving three other vehicles and ended with Campbell's vehicle hitting a utility pole.

Officials say Campbell was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the wreck and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, where he died Thursday.

Impairment is not suspected as a factor in this crash, but toxicology samples were taken from all drivers for analysis nonetheless.
