BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Drivers will not be able to use a long stretch of Interstate 10 this weekend.
The transportation department will close eastbound lanes where the interstate intersects Highway 61 Friday night, March 10.
Eastbound drivers will be asked to exit at Highway 61 and travel the highway to Highway 641. Drivers will able to get back on the interstate at Highway 641 in Garyville.
The closure is scheduled so work crews can make bridge repairs. The full stretch of Interstate 10 will reopen Monday, March 13 at 5 in the morning.
This project was originally scheduled for January but was postponed after field inspections identified areas of concern with the removal of the currently damaged on-ramp that is need of repair. In an effort to ensure safety and to avoid a possible prolonged closure of I-10, engineers made the decision to modify the repair plans and schedule a repair date after the Mardi Gras holiday.
