ST. AMANT, LA (WAFB) - Two schools in St. Amant now have single campuses for their students following the August flood.
Students were sharing several campuses.
Students were attending classes at Duplessis Primary, Prairieville Middle School and the old River Parishes Community College Campus in Sorrento. But now, they all moved to a temporary site behind Lake Elementary, where a set of mobile classrooms are connected by walkways.
School officials said getting brothers and sisters back on the same site is a big morale boost.
"Some of our siblings are now able to be with their other siblings because some of them were displaced on three different campuses," Steven Gray, assistant principal at Lake Elementary, said. "So, that was a hardship on parents and on them as well."
"We are a very close-knit community," Cindy Richard, another Lake Elementary assistant principal. "Most of our teachers and parents were all flooded as well. So, it's exciting to everyone here on the same campus at the same time."
Students at St. Amant Primary are also back on one campus.
With Lake Elementary moving out of the old RPCC, all St. Amant Primary students will take classes at that campus.
Repairs for both schools aren't expected to be finished for at least another year.
