GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Most of us probably aren't prepared for an emergency until it's too late.
It's why one group welcomed families to the Lamar Dixon Expo Center on Saturday for the National Preppers and Survivalist Expo.
They offered demonstrations on any emergency a person may face.
Visitors got details on setting up solar power for their home, purifying water and even how to properly store food.
Organizers said the tips may have extra meaning for the Baton Rouge area.
"I know this year Baton Rouge was underwater," said Ray McCreary, event director. "A couple years back, we had Katrina. Most people don't realize they need to be prepared until it's too late."
This is the seventh time organizers have held the expo.
