LSU baseball beats Baylor 4-0 in Shriners College Classic

HOUSTON - Senior left-hander Jared Poche' fired seven scoreless innings Saturday to lead second-ranked LSU to a 4-0 win over No. 17 Baylor at Minute Maid Park.

Poche' (3-0) limited the Bears to no runs on three hits in seven innings with no walks and five strikeouts. He extended his streak of consecutive scoreless innings this season to 22, and he has allowed just four hits with two walks and 15 strikeouts. His opponent batting average is a minuscule .058.

First baseman Jake Slaughter and designated hitter Jordan Romero started the fifth with consecutive singles.

Second baseman Cole Freeman lined a singled into center field to score Slaughter with the game's first run. Centerfielder Antoine Duplantis delivered an RBI single to score Romero, extending the Tigers' lead to 2-0.

LSU added two more runs in the sixth to increase the margin to 4-0. Rightfielder Greg Deichmann opened the inning with a solo blast to right field, his fifth homer of the season.
