Man charged with battery of and resisting officer after scuffle with deputies, report states

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man was arrested after a scuffle with a sheriff's deputy Saturday night, according to the report filed after his arrest.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported William McCain, 22, of Alexandria, was booked on charges of battery of a police officer and resisting an officer.

According to the probable cause report, the deputy was working extra duty at a Baton Rouge hotel that was hosting a large party when McCain and another man tried to go into the main lobby, but were not guests of the hotel and were not allowed into that area due to the event.

It stated when the deputy prevented the pair from going into that part of the hotel one of the men yelled an obscenity at the deputy and pushed him. The report added there was a scuffle when the deputy tried to handcuff McCain.

According to the report, additional deputies working extra duty for the party made their way to the area and during a struggle with McCain "had to physically move both hands of the accused behind his back while taking him into custody."

The East Baton Rouge Parish Prison reported McCain was released after posting $1,500 bond.
