Report: Metro Council could vote whether to put mental health center tax on Oct. ballot

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Metro Council members appear ready to revive a fight to fund a new mental health facility in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Our partners at the Baton Rouge Business Report say the council has placed a property tax on the March agenda.

In April, council members could vote on whether to place the tax on the October ballot.

The tax would fund the "Bridge Center for Hope," which some law enforcement officials argue is needed to keep mentally ill people from landing behind bars.
