Authorities identify man killed in Jefferson Hwy crash, release more details

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police reported one driver was killed in a head-on collision Thursday on Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge.

Troopers said the crash took the life of William Alford, 64, of Baton Rouge.

They added it happened on Jefferson Highway south of Tiger Bend Road around 10 a.m.

Senior Tpr. Bryan Lee said the investigation so far shows Alford was headed south on Jefferson Highway in a 2007 Ford F-150 when his truck crossed the center line into the path of a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica driven by David Anderson, 52, of Prairieville, and collided head-on with the minivan.

According to Lee, despite being properly buckled up, Alford suffered serious injuries in the crash. He said Alford was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Lee stated Anderson was also wearing his seat belt and suffered moderate injuries.

Lee said investigators have not been able to determine what caused Alford's truck to cross the center line, they have confirmed he died from the injuries he suffered in the crash. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner was called in to work with LSP to determine Alford's exact cause of death.

Impairment is not suspected, but blood samples were taken from both drivers and sent to a lab for analysis.

Crews with the St. George Fire Department were dispatched because the drivers were trapped and had to be cut out of their vehicles.

Jefferson Highway was shut down between Tiger Bend and Baringer Foreman Road while crews worked to clean up the debris. The closed portion reopened around noon.
