Woman faces charges after van fire in which flames spread to side of home

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A woman accused of setting a vehicle on fire in which the flames spread to a home with several people inside is facing arson charges.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported Brittany Brumfield, 27, was arrested Tuesday night.

According to Curt Monte with BRFD, investigators were called out to a medical van fire Sunday on Glen Oaks Drive near Beechwood Drive.

Monte said the flames from the burning van reached the side of a house with five people inside. No injuries were reported.

Monte added investigators learned there was some type of disagreement at the house before the fire and Brumfield allegedly threatened to burn the house.

"While being interviewed about the fire Brumfield admitted to using a lighter and setting a shirt on fire and placing the burning shirt in the van," Monte stated in a written release. "After she placed shirt in the van she stepped across the street and watched the van burn."

Brumfield is charged with aggravated arson and communication of a planned arson. No bond was set.
