Over $13M settlement awarded to plaintiffs in deadly Katrina police shootings

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says settlements over deadly police shootings after Hurricane Katrina amount to $13.3 million with 17 plaintiffs.

He also apologized to victims for police killings after Katrina as he announced settlements with victims' families.

A spokeswoman for the mayor's office says the settlements involve lawsuits over the deaths of three people who were killed in two separate police shootings after the 2005 hurricane. A fourth person was also fatally beaten by an officer shortly before the storm made landfall.
