BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Sometimes, nothing brightens a dark day like riding a bike, but not everybody has that luxury.
This is true for thousands of kids with disabilities, and it's why the McMains Children's Developmental Center's "Wheels to Succeed" program awarded bikes to ten children on Wednesday, December 14.
The group says many families are forced to spend thousands of dollars over their lifetime to provide the children with the services they need, and they don't always have the ability to purchase a bike.
"Sometimes these families can't provide a $2,000 bicycle for their kids. We're able to provide that joy of riding a bike to their kids, so that's important to us and it's almost a rite of passage that any young child should always have the opportunity to ride a bike," said Sebastian Alvarez, who is raising funds for the program.
