GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - The rainy weather had organizers of one the biggest Christmas parties in the City of Gonzales a little worried, but not for long.
Around 800 seniors showed up for the Rotary Club's annual Christmas party. The event, which has been around since the 1970s, was a big hit. It was almost canceled this year because the civic center flooded, but parish and city leaders pulled together and moved it to the Lamar Dixon Expo Center.
"They like to dance. The food is good and they get to see a lot of people they hadn't seen and enjoy themselves and forget about their troubles," said Tony Malbrough with the Rotary Club.
This year, the parish also invited seniors from surrounding parishes who may have been impacted by the flood.
