DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - When Denham Springs is able to cheer, it's a good day, especially after long days of struggle to recover from the floods.
The city held its Christmas tree lighting event Thursday night.
It truly was a chance to smile and look at the sparkle and appreciate the season.
Two children's choirs delighted the crowds with their Santa songs.
There were also great snacks on hand to enjoy.
"Where else can you come and we'll close down the city streets, bring their lawn chairs?" asked Mayor Gerard Landry. "Chil-fil-A stepped up and gave everyone chicken sandwiches. Christ's Church and other local credit unions had hot chocolate and cookies. It's just a good family atmosphere and that's what Denham Springs is all about."
Landry said this is part of Christmas in the Village and there is a Denham Springs Kiwanis Christmas Parade on Saturday. It will roll at 2 p.m.
Christmas in the Village, which is the antique village in Denham Springs, is a week away.
