BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - US Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said it was just a matter of time before Congress approved the most significant reform to mental health care in more than a decade and it has happened.
Congress passed the mental health reform bill this week. It now heads to the president's desk.
The measure was co-authored by Cassidy and US Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, as part of the 21st Century Cures Act.
Cassidy expects the reform to dramatically change the way mental illness is treated by expanding access to resources.
The legislation could really help Louisiana improve mental health care services by adding mental health facilities across the state.
