NWS confirms tornado caused damage in part of Ascension Parish

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

The National Weather Service confirmed the wind damage in part of Ascension Parish on Monday was caused by a tornado.

Officials said the EF-1 tornado with winds estimated to 90 mph caused damage along a 3.5-mile trek from LA 621 (George Rouyea Road) to near the intersection of LA 431 and LA 931. The area is south of Port Vincent and east of Prairieville.

The NWS reported the tornado uprooted and snapped trees. Officials added power poles and power lines were also damaged.

According to the NWS, some homes and buildings had minor damage due to fallen trees.
