BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

If you're Christmas shopping for someone who loves to read and enjoys fictional novels, the son of LSU head baseball coach Paul Mainieri has created a work that might be right up your alley.

On Monday, December 5, Nicholas Mainieri held a book signing at Barnes and Noble for his debut The Infinite.

A nice crowd, including Coach Mainieri, of course, were on hand to support Nicholas.

"He's an amazing young man, he really is," said Coach Mainieri. "Always had a great head on his shoulders and always knew what he wanted from life and was willing to pay the price for it. He loves writing. He loves teaching about writing. He's a proud Louisiana native and all those things kind of came together for him to write this book."

The book spans from New Orleans to Northeastern Mexico and focuses on a couple that falls in love and faces many challenges, including a decent into Mexico's drug war.

Nicholas said it was his father who taught him how to be successful and encouraged him to work hard for what he wants.

"I understood what it meant to work hard at something," Nicholas said. "I understood what it meant to be disciplined and get up every day to work at something, and I learned that from baseball. I learned that from my dad."
