BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A party brought a little Christmas spirit to residents after a tragic summer in Baton Rouge.
The Capital Area Law Enforcement Foundation (CALEF) hosted a Christmas party Sunday night, complete with decorations, but it was also for a very worthy cause. The foundation was created to help buy better safety equipment for law enforcement.
Head LSU football coach, Ed Orgeron made a special appearance, along with the wives of the officers killed in this summer's ambush attack.
"It's the reason why we're doing this. We want for this to never happen again. If we can put a better piece of equipment on our law enforcement, then we're doing the right thing. But this is a good town, and people care about their neighbors. In spite of all of the criticisms and divisions that people often talk about, when push comes to shove, we support our own, and this is just another example of that," said Leo Verde, a board member of CALEF.
The foundation has raised around $200,000 since its inception.
