BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The suspect involved in a dispute, which lead to shots being fired near Woman's Hospital, was caught around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, say officials with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.
Rayfield Grant, 54, of Baton Rouge was arrested in this case. He is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, illegal use of a weapon, resisting an officer, and fugitive from justice.
According to the probable cause report, Grant pointed a black rifle at the victim and pulled the trigger several times. The victim says Grant fired the shots above his head. The incident was witnessed by several other people, who confirmed what took place.
The victim says that Grant is his cousin and was able to provide law enforcement with his name, date of birth, and address. Deputies attempted to contact Grant at his residence and were unsuccessful. They then located him walking on Pecue Lane. Officials say Grant then began to flee. Grant was instructed to stop several times before an officer tased him.
An area around Woman's Hospital and Pecue Lane was secured while deputies searched for Grant.
"Woman's Hospital is not on lockdown, but we continue to monitor all public entrances with security. Patient safety is our first priority," said Aimee Goforth, a spokesperson for the hospital.
